Stroke/TBI
Diverse deficits occur from stroke or traumatic brain injury which impede daily engagement in life activities. Occupational therapy provides support in building skills in physical motor function, cognition, visual motor, sensory integration, adaptive equipment, behavioral and emotional support, and family and caregiver education.
Aging
Occupational therapy focuses on maintaining quality of life and independence, promoting aging-in-place, and providing fall prevention interventions. Your therapist may also provide assessment of living space for fall prevention.
Rehabilitation
Occupational therapy works in conjunction with other therapies (such as physical therapy) to support cognitive, motor, behavioral, and emotional functioning to help individuals regain daily life function and engagement in regular life routines and activities following injury or illness. The therapist may also help enact modifications to activities and routines when necessary to facilitate full participation.
Degenerative disease (Alzheimer's, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis,etc.)
Occupational therapy provides intervention designed and individualized to adapt daily routines and build skills to maintain independence in daily activities. Interventions may include support with daily activities and cognition, energy conservation, fall prevention, behavioral and emotional support, and use of assistive devices. Therapist may also assist in home modification and family and caregiver education.
